White, Black and Green Sand Beches, Big Island, Hawaii
Aloha!
My name is Donnie and I live in Hawaii…I wanted to tell you a little bit about our beautiful colored sand beaches here on the Big Island. Going to the beach is a big thing in Hawaii, because we are blessed with not only weather consistently gorgeous year round, but also with numerous beautiful beaches on which to enjoy our golden days.
Because our Big Island is geologically quite young and the landscape is immature, our beaches tend to be smaller than those on the older islands, and are therefore all the more precious. What the Big Island has that some of the other islands lack, though, are beaches with spectacularly colored sand…white sand, black sand, green sand and even grey sand.

Is it worth it to go whale watching from San Diego during the summer?
I am going to southern California this summer. I’d really like to go whale watching, but is it worth it to go in the summer? Or are all the whale gone during that season?
Yes, the gray whales are long gone, back to feed up in Alaska.
I go whale watching off Santa Barbara during the summer. They have populations of Humpback whales already hanging around and feeding and expect the blue whales to return in late May, early June.

There are also whales on the back side of Santa Catalina Island, but there aren’t many trips available then. Moving south, you’ll find that there are several landings that go out out Orange County (Dana Point & Newport Beach). Sometimes the blue or fin whales are in the channel and can be spotted. But there are almost always large pods of dolphins.
Consider a trip out to the Channel Islands, too, which is where you’ll see the most aquatic wildlife. Seals, sea lions, sometimes otters, basking sharks, mola mola, birds galore and of course five different species of dolphins.
I was just wondering where Hawaiian residents typically go for their honeymoons and /or vacations?
Typically, since most of us don’t have a lot of money, we go to another island and stay at a really nice resort (one that we would never normally go to). Also, people go to the mainland U.S. and stay at places that match our interests (like Vegas, San Francisco, Florida, etc.). Then the people who either have money or have been given money as a wedding gift, other parts of the Pacific are popular. Tahiti, Samoa, and Fiji are all really nice.
My wife and I did a combination of all three, as we had a generous family. We spent some time at the Molokai Ranch (very cool eco-adventures), Tahiti (Mo’orea – perfect for just chilling out), and then the mainland to visit family who could not attend the wedding in Hawaii.
