if lava flowed at any continuous rate (research and justify one numerical rate for lava flow) and smoothly flowed over the entire big island, hawaii before running completely into sea, how long would it take for the lava to completely cover the big island?

A lava can be either Aa or Pahoehoe type ( there is a third type – pillow lava, but that is formed below oceans and not considered for the purpose of your question). Both these terms are Hawaiian.
The rate of flow of lava depends on its viscosity and also the slope of the ground. Aa type lava is more viscous and moves as a thick blocky mass at a much slower speed, rarely reaching upto 1.8-2 km per hour.
Pahoehoe, on the other hand, is a lava flow that is much less viscous and hence move rapidly.The speed is usually about 10-11 km per hour, if the slope is moderate. It can be 15 km or more per hour along steep slopes.
I think you can calculate the time to cover a Hawaiian Island at this rate, once you assume a lava to be either Aa type or Pahoehoe type.

How is their diamond head tower. How are the pools in that area? I am going with two kids 8 and 12 . confused between outrigger reef on the beach ( two rooms)or get hilton one bedroom suite in diamond head
actually hilton will save me $600 if i get a suite as opposed to two rooms in outrigger on the beach

The Hilton Hawaiian Village is just that–its a village. The Diamond Head tower is just one of many towers in the whole "village." You can use any one of the pools in the Hilton Hawaiian Village complex.

The pools range from small, to large, to quiet, to busy…im sure you will find one that fits your needs if you decide to stay there.

The Outrigger is definitely cheaper but there are less pool options. The Hilton has more shopping, restaurants, pools and MUCH better beach access.

Me and my wife will be stayin in quepos in january 2010 and want to go to cano island and go snorkeling. Does anyone know of any tour companies that run that? If not, what is the closest place to jump on one of those tours?

There was one, but I’m not sure if it’s still running. However, there are tons in Dominical, and if you were to take the tour from MA you would have to pay extra becasue the tour actaully begins in Dominical anyway.

So there are 2 things you can do. If you have a car, drive to Dominical and park where the tour office is, it’s very safe.

Two, you can take a cab there.

However, I would really recommend booking the tour before hand, you can’t just show up.

Alf Bowlling: Hawian Vacasion. To date, there have been six additions to the game for PC computers.
Elf Bowling 2 involved using elves as shuffleboard pieces on the deck of a cruise liner where the player could also shoot penguins off an iceberg, risk having your elves eaten by sharks or crushed by a falling Moai (Easter Island monolith). The objective of this game was to score more points than Santa’s brother Dingle Kringle, who had “made an unmentionable wager regarding Mrs. Kringle” and who would take over Christmas if Santa lost.

In Elf Bowling, Santa Claus gets revenge on his striking elf employees by using them as bowling pins.
During the game, the elves say phrases such as “Is that all the balls you got, Santa?” when the player misses their first spare opportunity or “Gutter ball!” in a silly-sounding voice when a ball is rolled into the gutter. Other potential distractions for the user are a deer that walks up along the bowling lane that you can “hit” with your bowling ball if you press the right buttons, a frog wearing a Santa hat hopping back and forth across the player’s field of vision (resembling Kalvin Kroaker from frogapult also made by Nstorm) if you hit him with the bowling ball his carcass is hauled away from the screen by one of the birds from frogapult, a white rabbit that also jumps and poops across the bowling lane, the elves mooning Santa (asking “who’s your daddy” as they do it). Both during the game and after a game finishes, the elves do a macarena-like dance, shouting “Elf elf, baby!” in reference to Vanilla Ice’s song “Ice Ice Baby”. One of the elves randomly moons the bowler (Santa).
The elves can also randomly move out of the way of the ball, and one elf can be decapitated by the pin setter like shockwaveplay last insult, gutterball, and gutterball for freeshockwave.

Cruising the Big Island. Some shots from North Kohala, Waipio, Kona, Hilo, Puna, and Kilauea. We swam with turtles, saw dolphins from the beach, and flew over a gas and lava spewing volcano.
