5th anniversary in 2 wks, and I want to plan a Hawaiian theme gift/event for my husband. Ideas?
My husband and I had wanted to take a Hawaiian vacation for our 5th wedding anniversary, but I sprained my ankle quite badly, and we’re not going to be able to travel. How can I make a special "mini" Hawaiian/tropical celebration at home for our anniversary? We live in Minnesota. The only idea I have so far is to get some pineapple…obviously I’m going to need something else besides just that!
Grass skirt, coconut shell bra, Brother Izzy & Hapa on the CD, pikake blossoms, tiki torches, go to L&L Barbeque and get some roast pig and mac salad, let’s see…
oh yeah – make sure he gets "lei’d" a few times that night!
Has anybody ever won a hawaiian vacation?
I won a vaca for 2 nights. I know this is not long enough to fully enjoy everything there is to see but I am still planning on using the voucher. It comes with airfare and hotel accomodations. Has anybody used one of these things? What kind of hotel/motel do they stick you in?
hmmm, never tried it yet..well i came across this site.. http://www.freeairfaresearch.com/main
does anyone tried this site?
Why are the Hawaiian islands strung out roughly in a straight line?
-They formed along the magnetic field lines of the Earth.
-Random chance.
-The islands formed where the Pacific plate is hitting another crustal plate resulting in the uplifting of the islands.
-The Pacific plate is moving over a stationary hot spot over which the Hawaiian volcanoes formed.
-none of the above
The Pacific plate is moving over a stationary hot spot over which the Hawaiian volcanoes formed.
and this is why….
According to the new, generally accepted "plate-tectonics" theory, scientists believe that the Earth’s surface is broken into a number of shifting slabs or plates, which average about 50 miles in thickness. These plates move relative to one another above a hotter, deeper, more mobile zone at average rates as great as a few inches per year. Most of the world’s active volcanoes are located along or near the boundaries between shifting plates and are called "plate-boundary" volcanoes. However, some active volcanoes are not associated with plate boundaries, and many of these so-called "intra-plate" volcanoes form roughly linear chains in the interior of some oceanic plates. The Hawaiian Islands provide perhaps the best example of an "intra-plate" volcanic chain, developed by the northwest-moving Pacific Plate passing over an inferred "hot spot" that initiates the magma-generation and volcano-formation process. The peripheral areas of the Pacific Ocean Basin, containing the boundaries of several plates are dotted by many active volcanoes that form the so-called "Ring of Fire". The "Ring" provides excellent examples of "plate-boundary" volcanoes, including Mount St. Helens
Where is a great place to stay on the Big Island in Hawaii?
We are going to Hawaii and would like suggestions on where to say on the Big Island in Hawaii. Thanks for the help!
When I was on the big island in 2007 I stayed here http://kohalavillageinn.com/
If you like simple inns, this is for you. It’s basic, but wonderful. The family that owned it was sweet, the rooms clean and well cared for. The beds had homemade quilts, and curtains. The breakfast was simple, bagels and coffee type, but very nice, and the atmosphere was like staying at your favorite aunts place.
At the time, our stay was 9 days and cost us somewhere around $73 a night (They gave a discount for stays of more than 7 days) You’ll have to check for current rates, and deals, but it was worth every penny, especially with some of the Kona resorts upwards of hundreds of dollars a day!
It’s on the north tip of the island, so the only bad part was you needed a car to go anywhere. But we planned on that anyway. Best experience ever!

how come the sims don’t have the green diamond above there head?
how come the sims in my sims 2 game doesn’t have the green diamond thing above their head? thanks
it doesnt have the diamond at all.
Did you put in the cheat plumbbobtoggle off or did you download a hack to take away the plumbbob? You might have got a hack with a house or a sim if you downloaded stuff from a site that doesn’t check the content of what it’s users upload (eg. the Exchange, InSimenator). Check your Downloads folder for a hack that gets rid of the plumbbob. You might want to scan it with the Clean Installer – most hacks get highlighted red so they should be relatively easy to identify.
You can get Clean Installer here: http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/index.php?page=3
What island in the Bahamas has the best off-shore snorkeling?
I want to be able to have good snorkeling directly off the shore, so I don’t have to take a tour. What Bahamas island would be best for this?
You can snorkel just about anywhere
but here ya go
The Best Snorkeling
New Providence and Paradise islands — The waters that ring densely populated New Providence Island and nearby Paradise Island are easy to explore. Most people head for the Rose Island Reefs, the Gambier Deep Reef, the Booby Rock Channel, the Goulding Reef Cays, and some easily seen, well-known underwater wrecks that lie in shallow water. Virtually every hotel on the island offers equipment and can book you onto a snorkel cruise to sites farther offshore.
Grand Bahama Island — Resort hotels can hook you up with snorkeling excursions, such as the ones offered by Ocean Motion Water Sports Ltd. (tel. 242/374-2425 ; www.oceanmotionbahamas.com), the best snorkeling outfitter, which can also connect you with a number of other watersports, from banana-boating to water-skiing. The clear water around Grand Bahama is wonderful for snorkeling because it has a rich marine life. Snorkelers are fond of exploring Ben’s Cave, a stunning cavern that’s part of Lucayan Caves, as well as the coral beds at places like Silver Point Reef and Gold Rock.
Bimini — Snorkelers are enthralled with the black coral gardens that are easily accessible from shore and the colorful marine life around the island. Sometimes when conditions are right, snorkelers can frolic with a pod of spotted dolphins. Off North Bimini, snorkelers are attracted to a cluster of huge flat rocks that jut from 6 to 9m (20-30 ft.) out of the water at Paradise Point. The most imaginative snorkelers claim that these rocks, which seem hand-hewn, were part of a road system that once traversed the lost continent of Atlantis.
Long Island (The Southern Bahamas) — Shallow bays and sandy beaches offer many possibilities for snorkeling, and the staffs at both major resorts will direct you to the finest conditions near their stretches of beach. The island’s southern end is especially dramatic because of its unique sea cliffs. Many east-coast beach coves also offer fantastic snorkeling opportunities.
Elbow Cay — With its 209km (130-mile) string of beautiful cays and some of The Bahamas’ best beaches, the Abacos are ideal for snorkeling, especially in the waters off Elbow Cay. Visibility is often excellent because the cay lies close to the Gulf Stream’s cleansing waters. Mermaid Beach, a particularly colorful reef, is another favorite. Froggies Out Island Adventures (tel. 242/…; www.froggiesabaco.com) provides equipment and the best snorkeling advice.
Stocking Island — George Town is the capital of the Exumas, which is celebrated for its crystal-clear waters so beloved by yachties. From George Town, Stocking Island lies across Elizabeth Harbour, which is only 1.6km (1 mile) away. Stocking Island is a long, thin barrier island that attracts snorkelers who explore its blue holes (ocean pools of fresh water floating on heavier saltwater). The island is also ringed with undersea caves and coral gardens in stunning colors. You’ll find that Stocking Island has some of the Southern Bahamas’s most gorgeous beaches.
San Salvador — Following in the wake of Columbus, snorkelers find a rich paradise on this relatively undiscovered island, with its unspoiled, unpopulated kilometers of beaches ideal for swimming, shelling, and close-in snorkeling (snorkeling close to shore). A week’s stay is enough time to become acquainted with only some of the possibilities, including Bamboo Point, Fernandez Bay, and Long Bay, all within a few kilometers of Cockburn (the main village) on the island’s west side. At San Salvador’s southern tip are some of our favorite places for snorkeling, Sandy Point and nearby Grotto Bay.

HEWA of DLNR.m4v
for those of you interested in following kahumoku flores’ case re the infamous canopy, now referred to as the ‘confiscated tent’, here are photos of our protest today against DLNR for being the long arm of enforcement of the U.S. occupation of Hawaii through it’s local (short) arm, so-called state of hawaii, via dept. of land and natural resources’ docare. it’s early in the year, but definitey no dull moments. DLNR removed the tent, same one we always put up to cover the food or the queen’s display whenever there’s a significant occasion, like her birthday or her death day, or on sovereign sunday. we don’t aim for 365 days a year, perhaps 5 days at most. we always have food. we try to cover the food with a canopy (seems like a reasonable precaution). when the queen’s display is there, we try to make sure it’s covered–it’s a respect thing, nothing more nor less. since hawaiians are the only ones doing this, and the only ones being cited, it sure as looks like it’s hawaiians who are being targeted. but hey, if not at the palace, where else should we be? and if every person in town, including school groups and wedding parties, and tourists from every place in the world, are welcome on the palace grounds, how the heck did we become the target? so Kahumoku’s canopy was confiscated once, early in 2009, and then returned. then it was confiscated again, on the queen’s birthday commemoration, also at the ahu on the palace grounds, and he was ticketed. he was charged with something called “to be determined”. he went to court two weeks ago and the charge was changed to “camping without a permit”.
here’s a report from someone ’on the scene’ in the courthouse, where kahumoku was ordered to be at 8:30 this morning.
Uncle George’s case was dismissed in court, though without prejudice — meaning that DLNR can charge him with the same thing again. It’s kind of outrageous; this should have been the last continuance for the State, but the prosecutor pushed it. The judge also allowed the State to amend the “violation” yet again. So he has been charged with THREE different things at this point (the first having been “to be determined” – remember?).
The judge did order that the tent be returned (though it took kind of a lot of reminding), but the prosecutor fought this one, too. The end result was that they gave DLNR 45 day window – to take a picture of the tent! So I am recommending that Uncle George write them a letter stating that he wants it back this week, and then we go get it. Hopefully, this gives them a chance to be reasonable.

The 2009 Ironman World Championship, Kona Hawaii, Sharon Schmidt-Mongrain #1610
On October 10, 2009, Sharon Schmidt-Mongrain raced in the Ford Ironman World Championship. Though she had raced in 5 Half-Ironman distance races, this would be her first at the 140.6 mile distance. The 6 months leading up to the race included many early mornings and late nights training while working a full time job. Her training paid off… as she finished the swim in 1:05, the bike in 5:42, and the run in 3:34… earning a 9th place finish in her age group, 15th place overall female, and 50th overall female including pros. Just 4 weeks later, she raced in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship… check back to see that video!
