When is the prime time for Whale Watching in Alaska?
I’m going the last week of May and I would like to know if Whale Watching is a convenient activity or if I should trade it off for Bear Watching.
Thanks…
I’m not sure where in the state you are going, but whales will probably be easier to spot than bears in May. The salmon do not spawn the fresh water until June. This is when the bears come out in large numbers. In south east, you will definitely see both whales and bear; even in May. Cook Inlet/Turnigan Arm there is fewer sightings.
federal prison or Hawaiian vacation?
Im just gonna be the odd one and say Federal Prison. Cant have ma bit ches in Hawaii.
What is the least expensive way to travel between Hawaiian islands?
I have heard there isn’t a ferry anymore, is plane the only option and what are the airlines to use?
Yes, the Superferry is no longer here. Now there’s only a ferry between the island of Maui and Lanai, and a ferry between Maui and Molokai. That’s it. For all other interisland trips you need to fly. There are 4 airlines:
Hawaiian Airlines
Go Airlines
Mokulele Airlines
Island Air
You can check their websites for the best fare. But usually they have almost the same fares.
Any Suggestions on inexpensive authentic hawaiian places to eat on the big island, Kauai, or Oahu?
My husband and I are going to Hawaii (The big island, Kauai, and Oahu) and are looking for authentic Hawaiian food and places to eat that are inexpensive.
There are many restaurants on Oahu. When you mean "authentic hawaiian", I am assuming you mean "island, non-touristy" food, right, and not necessarily polynesian. Because island food is a mix of Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Portugese and American.
When I get the need for a good bowl of saimin, spam musubi or mac salad, I go to Boulevard’s on Dillingham (west of downtown Honolulu). It is in a more industrial part of town, but this is authentic island food…you will be the only tourist. Get their large bowl of won ton min, oh-my-god it is sooo good.
For breakfast/lunch, try Kaka’ako Kitchen in the Ward Center which is near Ala Moana shopping center. You eat on paper plates but the food is really interesting, very creative.
You must also try a Hawaiian Shave Ice with azuki beans and mochi. Go to Kokonuts in the Koko Marina Shopping Center in Hawaii Kai (on the way to Hanauma Bay).
There is a kalua pork sandwich stand in Waimanalo (windward side) called Kenneke’s on the side of the highway…you will see a line of people waiting for their loco moco or kalua pork sandwiches.
For true Hawaiian (polynesian) food, I think someone mentioned Ono Hawaiian Food, and this really is the best. But you can also try Helena’s Hawaiian Food on N School Street. Both will have lomi lomi salmon, kalua pork, spam musubi, ribs, poi (fermented taro root, an acquired taste…), lau lau…whew! But notice that it is STILL a mix of multi-cultural food. Let’s eat!!!!
For better fare, you can try the Pineapple Room next to Macy’s in the Ala Moana Shopping Center. This is owned by Alan Wong, considered the best chef in the islands and is a great buy (much cheaper than his flagship restaurant on King Street). Lunch is a better deal if you are really watching it, but you should try it at least once…

On Kauai, there is a restaurant that has been there FOREVER and serves traditional island noodles called "saimin". The restaurant is called "Hamura Saimin" in Lihue and is a MUST if you go. This is not at all fancy, you eat at counters.
Inexpensive take-out food is a way of life in the islands…you buy a "box lunch" or dinner at restaurants called "Okazu-ya", a term from the Japanese. Everyone has their own favorites they will tell you are the best. Try it, and go sit on a white sandy beach to eat. You will love it.
Buddhist who was the female Buddha whose statue graces the hillside park called Chung Cheng Park, Keelung Taiw
I was told she was the daughter of a fisherman whose father was caught at sea in a typhoon and in an unprecedented moment of enlightenment she walked across the stormy sea to her fathers’ boat where the men were at the edge of hopelessness and calmed the sea. She lived out the rest of her life humbly without further astonishments. She didn’t like to discuss what happened. The translator had a difficult time with my questions and may have skipped or misunderstood much of what was said.
Could Kuanyin also live as a mortal through various incarnations? The story I heard was of a local Girl and it sounded complete. But such beings tend to live frequently enough.
The Bodhisattva of Great Compassion
The Sanskrit name "Avalokiteshvara" means "the lord who looks upon the world with compassion".
Translated into Chinese, the name is "Kuan Shih Yin"or Quan Yin.
Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva is the embodiment of great compassion. He has vowed to free all sentient beings from suffering.
In the Lotus Sutra, Shakyamuni Buddha said that if a suffering being hears the name of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and earnestly calls out to the bodhisattva, Avalokiteshvara will hear the call and relieve that being from his suffering.
According to the Huayen Sutra, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva transforms himself into forms that suit the nature of those to be helped. His manifestations or transformation bodies are countless.
e.g. if a boy or girl is about to gain some enlightenment, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva transforms himself into a boy or a girl to teach the child.
e.g. If a monk is about to attain some enlightenment, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva transforms himself into a monk.
In short, he can appear as a monk, a nun, or a normal person like you and me. The purpose of such transformations is to make people feel close to him and willing to listen to his words.
In China, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva is represented in female form and is known as Kuan Yin. Probably because of Kuan Yin’s great compassion, a quality which is traditionally considered feminine, most of the bodhisattva’s statues in China since the Tang Dynasty (A.D. 618 – 907) have appeared as female figures. In India, however, the bodhisattva is generally represented as a male figure.

Which cenote in mexico area close to tulum/playa del carmen is the biggest and best for snorkeling?
I am staying in Mexico for 2 weeks and will be staying in a little town called Akumal between playa del carmen and tulum and would like to go to another cenote to snorkel, both we have been to were small but wonderful, I like the cave cenotes but which one would you reccomend for snorkeling and which one is the biggest?
Aktun Chen (see link below) is very popular. If you want to explore on your own, the manatee cenote is located at the Tankah Tres exit off of 307. Drive down the road, you will have to go through the security gate, and you will find the cenote right on the road directly across from Casa Cenote Restaurant. Go in the restaurant and enjoy a beverage and a bite and then walk over to the cenote. There is no parking and if you don’t spend any money at the restaurant, you will have to pay to park in their lot.
Doctors’ Opinion – Disability Status – SSDI, SSI, SSD – Lihue, HI – Hawaii
Call 1-800-667-5734 or visit the premiere Social Security website at: http://www.SocialSecurityDisability.com to understand how an Arkansas doctor can impact your Social Security Disability benefits. Social Security Disability Lawyer, Jerry Lynch, explains the importance of a doctor opinion.
My Doctor says I Am Disabled. So Why Was I Turned Down for SSD / SSI Benefits?
There could be many reasons for the Social Security Administration ( SSA ) to turn down your claim, but one could be the Doctors notes. It might say something like you cant work but maybe the Doctor is saying you merely cant work at your present job which may be extremely heavy or maybe extraordinarily stressful. And yet even though you do have a mental or physical disability youre still able to do other less demanding jobs. So the type of letter that you need from a Doctor to really help you win your social security disability ( SSD )case is going to be much more complicated than what the Doctor is normally used to writing for his patients.
