has anyone ever swam in between all the Hawaiian islands?
i am 14 i have made it to almost the top of almost every swimming chart and even into the record book, but before i quit for personal reasons i would like to leave with a bang. i would like to know if anyone has ever swam in between all of the hawaiian islands, if so how old were they and how fast did they go.
Well my uncle liuves in Hawaii, Kaui and he told me about this guy who tried to swim from Oahu to Kaui while just paddling on his surfboard. He couldn’t make it and ended up quiting when he was about halfway. It was the whole swiming in the unknown ocean in the middle of the night that was too hard for him.
I don’t think it’s possible to do.
How close do you have to be to the Hawaiian Islands?
I live in Oceanside CA about 2200 miles from the islands.
Is that too far? I can pick up radio stations from Albuquerque NM 650 miles away at night.
Considering Hawaii is very remote, you’d probably need to be on a boat to pick it up. The AM radio waves bounce off the ionosphere at night, allowing transmissions to be picked up from very far away. My guess is that if the Hawaii AM broadcasters tried, you could pick it up at night. Another problem is that when it reflects, it can miss some areas.
However, broadcasters do reduce the power at night so they don’t bounce signals as well to other areas.

Is there any truth to the news report that Obama wants to cede 2 of the Hawaiian Islands to Red China?
Apparently this would ease the US debt to China to under 10,000 billion and allow the US to borrow more from China..The citizens of the ceded islands are to have a choice of Chinese, American or dual citizenship (only for 50 years max)..It seems to be working for Hong Kong so why not for the USA?
Obama has no plans to cede two islands, he is too busy trying to give away the continental US to the Chinese.

what is the largest ethnic group on the hawaiian islands?
Out of all the ethnic groups that live there, which one has the most inhabitants on the islands?
From a study by the University of Hawaii, these are the major ethnic and racial groups in Hawaii in 2007:
The five major ethnic groups in Hawaii’s population of 1.1 million are:
Japanese, comprising 23%
Caucasians, 23%
ethnic Hawaiians, 19.9%
Filipinos, 11.3%
Chinese, 4.8%.
When did the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) become the Hawaiian Islands?
When Hawaii was discovered by Captain James Cook, he named in the Sandwich Islands. It was later changed to the Hawaiian Islands. I want to know when the name was changed.
Captain Cook named them the Sandwich Islands, for his friend John Montague, the 4th earl of Sandwich. Captain Cook used his own spelling of the native name "Owyhee" on the maps he drew. Cook was killed on the island of Hawaii in 1779.
Kamehameha the Great (the first King Kamehameha) was from the island of Hawaii. When he conquered all of the other Hawaiian islands to unite them under his rule in 1804, he named the whole group the Hawaiian Islands, naming them after the island that he was from.

The Honolulu Festival is Hawaii’s premier cultural event, promoting understanding, economic cooperation and ethnic harmony between the people of Hawaii and the Asia-Pacific region. Each year, the Festival draws thousands of new and returning spectators who are looking for an experience beyond Hawaii. Through educational programs and activities sponsored by the Honolulu Festival Foundation, a nonprofit organization, the Festival continues to successfully share the rich and vibrant blend of Asian and Hawaiian cultures with the rest of the world.

What is the most ‘affordable’ of the Hawaiian islands?
I’m thinking about visiting Hawaii in a couple of years (to have time to save up the money) but I’ve heard that they are very expensive. Which of the islands is the most affordable. I will be traveling with my husband and young child. We like the simple things in life like beaches and luaus, but not spa treatment type stuff. Any realistic suggestions? Thanks!
When it comes to hotels, food, car rentals, etc, they’re all equally expensive. However, there are ways to save money. If you’re not into spas, that will save a fair amount. There are four main islands to consider: O’ahu, Maui, Hawai’i (aka the Big Island) and Kauai. If you like beaches, the Big Island may not be the best choice. There are very few beaches compared to the other islands. Lots of lava rock, but not lots of sand. However, hiking at the Volcanoe National Park is great.
Kauai has some nice beaches & lots of great hiking, but it doesn’t have a lot of restaurant choices, so you have fewer lower priced places to eat. You also can’t cut across the island while driving & can’t drive all the way around, so getting from one side to the other for someplace to eat, swim etc can be time consuming. In addition, with the exception of the resort areas, a lot of places close early. However, the island is beautiful & worth a 3-4 day visit…or longer if you want lots of beach time.
O’ahu is the most "touristy" of the islands & has lots of options, especially in Waikiki, but that’s not true Hawaii. The North Shore is a much better bet for a closer picture to what Hawaii is really like. Deals are best found in Honolulu/Waikiki though, due to the volume of tourists visiting & the number of resorts. This is likely the destination for the cheapest airfare & hotel rooms. Nice beaches, especially on the North Shore & this is the best island for night life, if that interests.
I may be biased, but Maui is my favorite. Lots of great beaches, nice restaurants with some good deals to be found. You can get a condo & pick stuff up at Costco wight outside the airport much more reasonably than in the grocery stores (a gallon of milk in the store is $8!). There is good hiking on Maui as well. The Old Lahaina Luau (pricy) is the best on any island.
Check out the Maui Revealed, Kauai Revealed, etc guide books at your local bookstore to see which island best appeals to your interests. They are by far the best guidebooks on the Hawaiian islands – written by people who live there. Happy planning!
