Not Amy W, but will try to help.
    1) The active volcano is on the Big Island of Hawaii.
    2) You will want to make your plans in advance, so you will want to deal w/ a travel agent in your own community, I think. But if you want to deal w/ someone long distance, try Panda Travel 808-734-1961. I think you will get a better overall deal on seeing several islands by booking it with an agent. You don’t need to do an accompanied tour to benefit. If you try to put all of the pieces together yourself, it will undoubtably end up being more.
    3) Not sure what you mean about seeing Diamond Head. There is a trail that you can climb to the top. It is not a difficult hike, if you are in decent shape, but it does involved a fair amount of climbing. You should budget about 3 hours for this, though the hike doesn’t last that long. Re-readining your other post – depending on how active your kids are, this hike may be too much. The 5 year old might be ok. The 2 year old would probably need to be packed. But maybe that is not what you meant when you said "see Diamond Head".
    4) I checked out your original question. If you are thinking 3 islands, you need at least 10 days. Try to fly early in the morning between islands. If you fly in the middle of the day, with all of the airlines stuff, it will eat up half your day. I would recommend 3 days on Maui & Kauai, & 4 on Oahu, but if you do any on-line looking around & one of the islands seems to be singing to you, then that is the place you should spend the extra day.
