i seen a yellow and black snake in southeastern texas. diamond shape head smoothe scales, and skinny.?

it was approximatley 4 to 5 feet long. big yellow stripes and thin black stipes running from its head to its tail. flat diamond shape head and it was skinny with smooth looking scales. in south eastern texas by the gulf of mexico…

Sounds like a garter snake…

To the person below me, the saying goes:
Red to yellow kill a fellow
Red to black venom lack

Or at least thats how I heard it

DON’T TOUCH IT! Black on yellow kill a fellow! Red on black friend of Jack. it might be a coral snake.

It sounds to me that it might have been a Texas rat snake, Pantherophis obsoleta lindheimeri, don’t ask how I know the Latin name. As far as the other answers about Coral snakes? The record for a coral snake is 47 1/2 inches, with the average size being 20-30 inches. So, I very much doubt it was a coral snake. Also, just remember there are only 4 "kinds" of venomous snakes in North America. The Coral Snake (with it’s several species), the Cottonmouth Moccasin (with it’s several species), the Copperhead (with it’s several species) and the Rattlesnakes (with a huge amount of species in the US.) All very easily identifiable. All the rest will be non venomous.

if the black and yellow were touching than it is venomous, if not than it is probably just a garter snake and they are harmless.
