I’m not a big hiker, is the Diamond Head worth it?
I don’t really enjoy hiking, but from everything I’ve heard about the Diamond Head it sounds really interesting. Is it a hard hike? Is it actually as interesting and "must-see" as it is made out to be? I had terrible hiking experiences as a child that have kinda soiled the whole idea of hiking to me but Hawaiian hiking may be worth trying it again. Just looking for some opinions.
I HATE to hike. I’m overweight too, and I’ve done this hike three times. I love it! It’s a bit of a climb getting to the top — including 99 steps built right into the crater — but the views from the top are outstanding. It’s SO worth it, IMO. If you decide to go, take at least one bottle of water per person and a good camera. Regular old tennis shoes are fine for this hike. I have done it every time in either Tevas or rubber slippers and have been just fine, but I wear rubber slippers every day of my life so I’m used to them.
Yes it is worth it and it’s very tourist friendly. Wear tennis shoes with support, not flip flops or open toe sandals and you’ll be fine. Also bring water.

I like to hike, so it’s a bit hard to put myself into your hiking shoes. It is a lot of climbing. Not a bad hike if you are in any kind of shape, but some folks that are older, or heavier, or not in such good shape may have some trouble with it. The views, and breezes at the top are great, but it can be hot on the way up. I would recommend doing it early in the morning before it warms up too much. Bring water. You know best about your hiking phobia, but lots of people find it a great hike.

There is a lot to see on Oahu, but I would put Diamond head near the top of the list.
The view from the top is worth the trip! Somebody else said to bring water and wear good walking shoes – good ideas. Take a little flashlight too; you will pass through some little tunnels.
You don’t have to race to the top thought; there is a lot to see on your way up. Take your time and enjoy the sights.
